Ontario employers can now have free access to workplace safety resources from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario has partnered with the federal organisation to provide all WSIB-registered businesses with complimentary access to the centre’s new Business Safety Portal.

“This one’s on us and is another way we’re helping people to invest in their businesses during these uncertain times,” said Jeff Lang, WSIB president and CEO. “Access to these resources is a value-add for every Ontario business and has the power to improve health and safety outcomes and reduce injury rates. We’re proud to do it.”

The portal is an online hub that offers a range of industry-specific and scalable resources, like templates, online courses and practical manuals businesses can use to help make their workplace safer and help them meet their legal obligations.

CCOHS notes that the Business Safety Portal is ideal for:

  • Employers across a wide range of industries, from manufacturing to mining and hospitality to health-care services
  • Organizations of all sizes – from small startups to seasoned businesses
  • Health and safety officers and managers
  • Joint health and safety committee members
  • Health and safety representatives
  • Managers, supervisors, and employees

The partnership will help businesses save up to $1,700 annually on the portal’s subscription fee, according to WSIB.

“We created the Business Safety Portal to address the unique health and safety challenges faced by these owners and employers,” said Anne Tennier, president and CEO, CCOHS. “We’re proud to partner with WSIB as they roll out free access to the portal for Ontario businesses. We all share the goal of providing easy access to credible tools and resources that can help keep workplaces and workers safe.”

More than 1,000 employers have already signed up for the free access, according to WSIB. To access the portal, businesses can simply log in to their WSIB account at wsib.ca.
