Industrial accident involving chemicals happened on Thursday last week
The worker who was injured in a chemical accident in Toronto last week has died, according to reports.
The incident happened at a Burlington warehouse on Thursday.
One worker sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
Tom Stirling, deputy chief of paramedic services in Halton, previously said the worker had "life-threatening injuries" and was taken to a local hospital, according to CBC.
The worker died on Sunday, Douglas Fast, president of Control Chem Canada Ltd., located on Harvester Road, confirmed, according to reports from The Hamilton Spectator, CBC and Global News.
Fast expressed the company’s grief over the loss of “a well-regarded fellow staff member” in a statement, according to Global News.
“From what we know at this point, one of our production batch makers was dispensing one material into a second larger container. He was overcome by fumes and fell,” Fast said previously, according to The Hamilton Spectator. “Other plant staff attended and called for emergency services.”
The Ontario Ministry of Labour is following up on their investigation later this week.
"Our thoughts and condolences for [the] worker's family, friends, and loved ones," Ministry of Labour spokesperson Anuradha Dhar told CBC via email.
