One worker died in an industrial incident in Ontario earlier this month.

The incident happened on July 16, at Taylor Steel’s Stoney Creek steel processing plant, reported The Hamilton Spectator.

A worker was fatally injured when they were “trapped under material,” said Manuel Alas-Sevillano, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, in the report.

The ministry was informed of the incident on July 16, according to the report.

The worker is believed to be a man in his 50s, Supt. Dave Thompson of Hamilton Paramedic Services told The Spectator. Paramedics were providing the man with “advanced life support procedures,” but he was transported to hospital without vital signs from the steel plant, according to the report.

An investigator has been assigned to look into the worker’s death, and the ministry’s investigation is ongoing.

In 2020, a worker also died at Taylor Steel in Hamilton, both The Spectator’s report and the Canadian Labour Congress’ (CLC) Occupational Health and Safety committee noted.

That incident happened in December 2020, when a man believed to be in his 30s died after an emergency call for an “industrial rescue.”

No charges have been made public from the 2020 incident, noted The Spectator.
