The vessel remains at port and the company is co-operating with authorities.
The company, however, did not provide further details about what exactly happened, based on a The Canadian Press report published on CTV News and a CBC news.
No other crew members were injured, Penney said in The Canadian Press report. The company did not release the name of the worker.
Nova Scotia's Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration was notified of the incident on Thursday, according to The Canadian Press. The department is investigating the incident, according to the CBC report. Occupational Health and Safety officers are investigating.
"As another family is mourning the loss of a loved one in one week, we want to remind everyone of the importance of workplace safety because all Nova Scotians should come home safe from work," the provincial government said in a statement, according to CBC.
Meanwhile, Clearwater Seafoods will be providing support to the fatality’s family, as well as other worse on the vessel.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the crew member’s family and his shipmates. We are organizing support and counselling for the family and crew of the Anne Risley,” Penney said.
