Online materials available to anyone without charge on WCB website
The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Prince Edward Island (PEI) has announced the launch of free online certificate courses covering a range of compensation and occupational health and safety topics. These courses are accessible to everyone through the WCB website.
“As part of our 2024-2026 strategic plan, we have identified the need to adapt our outreach and communications to the growing diversity in our workforce,” stated Dan Campbell, CEO of the WCB. “By providing these courses free of charge to Island workers and employers, our goal is to empower each and every one of them with knowledge and understanding of topics that affect them in the workplace, both individually and collectively.”
Currently, five courses are available online, with plans to expand the course offerings as more content becomes available. Each course is tailored to the specific needs of PEI workplaces and is built upon existing PEI legislation. The courses are designed to be self-paced, and participants receive a completion certificate from the WCB upon finishing each course. These courses can be utilized as standalone learning opportunities or integrated into a worker’s safety orientation or workplace safety program.
Interested individuals can access the course catalog by visiting the WCB website at wcb.pe.ca and clicking the “FREE Online Courses” button.
In addition to the online courses, the WCB has also updated its series of safety resources, now available in multiple languages. These resources aim to enhance the health and safety of workers and employers across the Island. The available materials include safety responsibility posters, a fact sheet on workers compensation coverage, and a fact sheet on steps to take if a work-related injury or illness occurs. These resources are offered in English, French, Simplified Chinese, Punjabi, Filipino, and Spanish. They can be downloaded from the WCB website by clicking the “Resources in Various Languages” button.
With these initiatives, the WCB is taking significant steps to ensure that all workers and employers in PEI have access to essential health and safety information, regardless of their language or background. This commitment to inclusivity and education reflects the WCB’s ongoing efforts to adapt to the diverse needs of the Island’s workforce.
