On Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, an employee of a Loblaws’ grocery distribution centre in Edmonton attacked six co-workers, resulting in two fatalities.
A man wearing a military-style vest and holding a knife in each hand entered the warehouse during a shift-change and starting stabbing people throughout the building.
Fitzroy Harris, 50, and Thierno Bah, 41, both died and four others were injured.
Edmonton police have laid murder charges against Jayme Pasieka, 29. He faces two counts of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.
“Friday was a tragic day at our Edmonton distribution centre. We lost friends, others were injured and our entire team was shaken,” said a statement by Loblaws. “We honour our colleagues who were injured and killed. Our thoughts are with them and their families, and our team is forever saddened.”
Loblaws said the facility will be closed “as long as is appropriate” and it will be offering counselling to its employees.
“The wellbeing and safety of our team remains our priority,” it said.
