Charity dedicated to supporting families affected by workplace tragedies begins annual event
Threads of Life, a prominent Canadian charity dedicated to supporting families affected by workplace tragedies, has announced the launch of its annual fundraising campaign, Steps for Life-Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy. With a mission to aid those coping with workplace-related losses while advocating for safer working environments, the campaign aims to unite communities across Canada in support of this cause, with 30 Steps for Life events taking place this year.
A recent email campaign focuses on the poignant story of Tara Elliott, whose father, Stephen Brown, tragically lost his life in a workplace incident in 2019. Tara's journey from grief to advocacy serves as a powerful testament to the impact of Threads of Life's support network.
“Every day in Canada, people will be killed at work, or die as a result of occupational disease,” says Elliott, “and hundreds more will be seriously injured or made ill because of work. With those deaths, injuries and illnesses there are thousands of family members, friends and co-workers changed forever.”
Tara and her family joined Threads of Life very soon after her dad’s death. “The support we have received through the Threads of Life community has been such a gift,” Tara says.
Elliott, now a national family spokesperson for Steps for Life 2024, also has a career in health and safety, a reflection of the transformative role Threads of Life has played in her life, providing invaluable support during her family's darkest hours.
The email urges recipients to participate in Steps for Life as walkers, donors, or volunteers, emphasizing the tangible difference each individual can make. Whether joining one of the 30 scheduled walks nationwide or participating in the online event, supporters are encouraged to contribute to the collective effort towards healing and prevention.
As Threads of Life launches its annual fundraising campaign, the organization invites Canadians from coast to coast to join the movement for safer workplaces. Through the collective action of walking, donating, and volunteering, individuals have the opportunity to honor the memory of those lost while championing a future where workplace tragedies are prevented. With Tara Elliott's story as a guiding beacon, Steps for Life 2024 promises to be a poignant testament to the power of community, compassion, and collective action.
