More than a million dollars raised in 2023 has hopes high this year
As spring unfolds across Canada, so does the momentum of the Steps for Life 2024 campaign, spearheaded by Threads of Life, a prominent Canadian charity dedicated to supporting families affected by workplace tragedies.
With the campaign culminating at the end of this month, Heather Lyle, the national manager for Steps for Life, shared insights into the upcoming events and the mission driving this collective effort.
"Registration is on the ramp up right now," says Lyle. "We're only about three weeks away from our first walk being held the last weekend of April, just around the day of mourning." The walks, which run throughout May, aim to unite communities across the country in support of safer working environments.
Lyle highlighted the diverse array of participants registering for the events, noting the increasing involvement from the health and safety community. "We have seen so many community leaders from the health and safety arena that have stepped up and created teams," she explains. "We have health and safety professionals, even on many of our planning committees that coordinate these and host these in the community."
Reflecting on the impact of past campaigns, Lyle shares, "last year, we raised over a million dollars to support Threads of Life families. It was a record year, and I'm still overwhelmed by the generosity of the community from coast to coast." With such remarkable achievements, the goals for this year's campaign remain ambitious yet grounded in the mission to raise funds and awareness for families affected by workplace tragedies.
As the campaign gains momentum, Lyle is urging individuals to participate, whether by registering as walkers, donors, or volunteers. "It's really about spreading awareness and showing support through fundraising," she emphasized. "Whether joining one of the 30 scheduled walks nationwide or participating in the online event, every contribution makes a tangible difference."
Lyle hopes health and safety leaders will continue to echo her message and reiterate the importance of community engagement in driving the campaign's success. "Point them towards the website, show them where all the events are held across Canada. And if they can't join in person, we have the national online event, where they can still participate and make an impact."
With the Toronto flagship event scheduled for April 28th, Steps for Life 2024 promises to be a poignant testament to the power of collective action in honoring the memory of those lost while championing a future of safer workplaces for all.
