Ontario worker dies from electrocution

One worker died following a workplace incident in Pickering, Ont. on Wednesday.

A worker fell off a transformer at 1555 Kingston Rd. after being electrocuted around 2 p.m., reported DurhamRegion.com.

The worker was a man in his 40s, according to the report.

The worker did not have vital signs after the incident, noted emergency services dispatchers.

An electrical box at the scene was cordoned off with police tape.

Two ministry inspectors as well as an engineer attended the scene, the report noted, citing the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

Also, there were two Elexicon energy trucks and Durham police and Durham paramedic vehicles parked near the scene, noted DurhamRegion.com.

The worker was employed by Wildcats Building Services Inc., a window cleaning company. 

“One requirement was issued to the employer,” according to the labour ministry.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones.”

How to avoid getting electrocuted at work?

  2. Ensure that all equipment is grounded to avoid electric shock.
  3. Disconnect or turn-off machines if not in use.
  4. Do not plug two extension cords together.
  5. Do not nail extension cords.
  6. Never work in wet conditions.
  7. Ensure circuit protection.
  8. Do not overload the socket.
