Ontario Northland worker dies in industrial accident

One worker died following an industrial accident at a rail yard in North Bay, Ont., on Tuesday, according to reports.

North Bay Police Service, with the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police, were called to the scene.

There, they found one person dead.

Reports did not indicate what exactly happened or the identity of the victim.

"As there are ongoing investigations by Transport Canada and the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, we cannot provide additional details at this time," North Bay police spokesperson David Woolley said, according to CBC.

In an email to CBC News, Ontario Northland spokesperson Rebecca McGlynn said, "Our hearts go out to the friends, family and fellow members of our Ontario Northland team following this tragedy."

"As this is under investigation, please contact the Ministry of Labour for further information," the spokesperson told CTV News.

Meanwhile, flags are at half-mast at all Ontario Northland buildings on Wednesday in honour of the worker who died on the job.

“Our hearts go out to the friends, family and fellow members of our Ontario Northland team following this tragedy. As there are ongoing investigations, we cannot provide additional information at this time,” Rebecca McGlynn, chief marketing and communications officer for Ontario Northland, said, according to a report from the North Bay Nugget.

She said counselling and support were immediately available for all employees.  

“Ontario Northland will continue to provide additional counselling and ensure services are in place for ongoing support.”
