A memorial service for the Manitoba Hydro workers who recently died on the job is set to take place later this month.

Kyle Spalding, aged 46, died on Aug, 8 while responding to a power outage, according to a report from the Winnipeg Free Press.

The memorial service will be at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre on Aug. 28, according to the report.

Spalding left behind his wife Melanie and their children, 22-year-old Ethan and 18-year-old Aiden.

“Kyle was known for his incredibly strong work ethic, kindness, humor, and positive energy. He brought a breath of fresh air, with much laughter, wherever he went and Kyle genuinely supported all those around him,” read part of the GoFundMe fundraiser launched to raise funds for Spalding’s family.

“As a Manitoba Hydro Lineman, Kyle worked hard every day to support his family, [which] he loved so much.”

The fundraiser has raised more than $64,000 so far out of its target of $75,000.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the individual’s loved ones, friends and coworkers,” said Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Allan Danroth after the Aug. 8 incident. “We are devastated to lose a member of our Manitoba Hydro family. The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority and we are committed to fully investigating the cause of this tragedy.”
