GoFundMe page for worker's family raises over $90,000
A funeral was held on Sunday for the Alberta government worker who was fatally injured after being shot by assailants earlier this month.
Colin Hough, a Rocky View County employee, lost his life on Aug. 6, when he was shot and was fatally wounded, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
He was offered to help assailants with their burning truck, according to City News.
“This tragic and senseless act has deeply affected us all,” said Byron Riemann, chief administrative officer of the county. “Colin was a valued member of our team, and we extend our deepest condolences to Colin's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Hough, aged 45, left behind his wife and two sons.
“Colin was a quiet, steady presence in the life of his family. He was an active father who was happiest watching and building Lego with his family and helping his children participate in sports such as soccer and swimming but especially his beloved game of baseball. He was rarely seen without a ball cap bearing the logo of his favourite teams, the Chicago White Sox, Dallas Cowboys or Calgary Flames,” read part of an obituary for Hough posted on Airdrie City View.
Meanwhile, the GoFundMe page setup to raise funds for the family of Hough has already raised more than $90,000.
“Colin was a beloved father, husband, son, colleague and friend who never hesitated to help anyone. He leaves behind a beautiful family, including his wife and two small children who will need as much help as possible as they navigate this unimaginable and unexpected loss,” reads the fundraiser posted on GoFundMe.
“All funds from this fundraiser will go directly to the family to help with funeral costs and general expenses.”
One of the suspects in the death of Hough has been arrested. Meanwhile, police are still looking for the other suspect, 28-year-old Elijah Strawberry. He was described as armed and extremely dangerous, according to a City News report.
