The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has issued an order and some requirements to one employer in the province following a structural incident.

The incident happened on May 29, at Glencore Canada’s smelter property, reported Sudbury.com.

Planned cleaning of the roaster off-gas system at the smelter in the release of dust, Iyo Grenon, senior communications specialist for Glencore’s Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, said in the report.

“This was an isolated event and the plume occurred over smelter property,” Grenon told Sudbury.com.

Grenon also said that no sulphur dioxide (SO2) was released in the incident.

The company has notified authorities and investigation into the “root cause” of the incident is ongoing.

Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has confirmed the incident.

"It was reported that a structural event occurred at the smelter. No worker injuries were reported. A ministry inspector, engineer and hygienist attended the scene. One order and seven requirements were issued to the employer, Glencore Canada," the ministry said, according to Sudbury.com.

"The ministry’s investigation is ongoing. As such, no further information can be provided at this time.”
