2 workers injured at Saskatchewan co-op refinery explosion

Two workers sustained minor injuries following an explosion and fire at a co-op refinery in Saskatchewan earlier this week.

The incident occurred at the Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) complex in Regina on Tuesday morning.

“Crews got called to the co-op refinery at 4.49AM this morning,” according to the Regina Fire & Protective Services.

“The co-op refinery fire crews have the situation under control and Regina Fire is in a standby mode to assist if need,” the service said via X Tuesday morning.

The fire was isolated to a single unit in Section 3 of the refinery, CTV News reported, citing a statement from the company. The unit has been shut down and is considered to be in a “safe state.”

At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, FCL announced that it had issued an “all clear” at the refinery, according to the report.

“We thank the Regina Fire Department for their immediate assistance as their teams worked with us to successfully contain the incident,” FCL said in the update.

The incident is now under investigation, the company said.

More details will be released once they are available, according to CTV News.
