1 worker dies, another injured in vehicle collision in Ontario

One city worker died and another was injured in a vehicle collision in Hamilton, Ontario, on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Golf Links Road, near Martindale Crescent and Legend Court.

“A white sedan was travelling westbound on Golf Links when they collided with a city vehicle that was conducting business in the shoulder lane,” Const. Trevor McKenna, with Hamilton Police, said in a video posted in the police service’s X account.

The worker that died was a 55-year-old man, according to CTV News. His co-worker, a 43-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The 76-year-old driver of the white Infiniti sedan also suffered minor injuries. He is co-operating with police in their investigation, according to the report.

The two workers are employed by Public Works, according to Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath.

“These individuals dedicated themselves to serving our city, and this loss will be felt throughout our community,” she said.

Horwath extended her condolences to the family of the worker who died in the incident. She also wished for the speedy recovery of the worker who sustained minor injuries.

“We will do everything we can to support their loved ones and coworkers as they navigate this challenging moment.”
