Police pull unsafe vehicle off the road
Two commercial vehicle drivers and the owner of the vehicle are facing charges after a “heavily damaged” transport truck kept driving for about five hours after being involved in a crash on Highway 11 in Northern Ontario.
On February 16 the commercial motor vehicle was in a crash in the Jellicoe area around 1pm, according to James Bay OPP. The trailer and the cab were both damaged.
Two days later, around 8:45am, police received a report of the same truck on the road in the Cochrane area. It takes more than five hours to drive from Jellicoe, which is west of Geraldton, to Cochrane.
According to the report in Timmins Today, police pulled the vehicle over south of Cochrane. It’s been taken out of service and the licence plates have been removed from the trailer.
The Ontario Provincial Police says a in a press release, "driving with major defects will not be tolerated as it risks the safety of the entire motoring public. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads."
A 27-year-old driver from Brampton is charged with operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle, failing to accurately complete a daily inspection report, failing to enter a defect into a daily inspection report, and driving a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it.
A 33-year-old driver from Brantford is facing the exact same charges.
The owner of the transport truck is from Winnipeg and is charged with two counts of operating an unsafe commercial vehicle, two counts of failing to accurately complete a daily inspection report, failing to enter a defect into a daily inspection report, and two counts of driving a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in the drawn vehicle.
