Worker became trapped in the load of a dump truck while making a delivery
An industrial accident at a fish-feed mill in Truro, Nova Scotia has resulted in the death of a 55-year-old man from Ontario, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at Northeast Nutrition on Willow Street, prompting an immediate response from emergency workers on Tuesday evening.
Truro Police Chief David MacNeil provided details about the accident to CBC News, saying, "the gentleman was delivering some material to the plant. There was a dump truck type of an affair and the load shifted in the truck and he was trapped in the load." Sadly, the man sustained fatal injuries as a result.
Authorities have confirmed that the victim was not an employee of Northeast Nutrition. The Nova Scotia Department of Labour has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause and ensure workplace safety protocols were followed.
In a joint effort, the Truro Police Service, Truro Fire Service, and Emergency Health Services (EHS) swiftly responded to the scene. The police department is now assisting the Department of Labour in their inquiry.
"Our deepest condolences to family, friends, and all the staff at Northeast Nutrition during this difficult time," expressed Truro's chief administrative officer in a statement released on Wednesday. The deceased's family in Ontario has been informed about the tragedy, although the man's identity is being withheld while the notification process continues.
