Current world record for most vests in one location is 2,136
SAFE Work Manitoba is asking for Winnipeg's help to break the Guinness world record for number of high-visibility safety vests in one location today at Shaw Park for its InVest in Safety event.
"With the help of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Technical Vocational High School, SAFE Work Manitoba will attempt to break this world record to raise awareness for the importance of using personal protective equipment, such as high-visibility safety vests, to stay safe and prevent injuries," said Jamie Hall, COO, SAFE Work Manitoba.
The current world record for number of high-visibility safety vests in one location is 2,136 held by the City of Kitakyushu in Japan.
SAFE Work Manitoba's record attempt will be hosted by the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. All those attending the event wearing a high-visibility safety vest will receive a free ticket to the exhibition game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 6 p.m. following the record attempt.
"SAFE Work Manitoba thanks the Winnipeg Goldeyes for its generous support of this initiative and its donation of 2,200 tickets for this event," said Hall. "The InVest in Safety event will be a great opportunity to bring the kids and the whole family to be a part of Winnipeg safety history and take in a free ball game."
SAFE Work Manitoba will begin handing out tickets starting at 4 p.m. and will be providing a limited number of vests for those who do not own a high-visibility vest but are interested in attending the InVest in Safety event. Once the record attempt is completed, SAFE Work Manitoba will be donating the vests to Habitat for Humanity.
In 2016, there were 30 injury claims submitted to the workers’ compensation board related to pedestrian workers being struck by vehicles and equipment. Wearing personal protective equipment such as high-visibility safety vests is one way to help prevent these types of serious incidents. High-visibility items, such as safety vests allow workers to be seen sooner and more readily by vehicle drivers, and increases their safety at work.
