Voluntary program would recognize employers that go 'above and beyond'
Ontario is seeking public input to help create a voluntary accreditation program that will recognize employers that go above and beyond to promote health and safety practices on the job.
Many workplaces around the world have begun using internationally recognized standards for occupational health and safety management systems to drive continual improvement of health and safety in their organizations. Effective implementation of these standards means that more workers get home safe and healthy each and every day, the provincial government said.
“Organizations that successfully implement occupational health and safety management systems also improve safety environments and increase hazard reporting by workers. Keeping workers safe on the job just makes good business sense,” said Marcelle Crouse, acting chief prevention officer.
To encourage the uptake of these programs, Ontario is seeking public input from both workers and employers to help create an accreditation and employer recognition program. Ideas will be accepted here until Dec. 20.
