Employees will have new part-time representation at the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), said Labour Minister Lisa Raitt.
Sari Sairanen began a four-year part-time term on Dec. 13 with the CCOHS. Sairanen is currently the director of health and safety at the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union. She has held various positions in the health and safety and labour relations sectors of the CAW, including bargaining committee representative, vice-president of the western region and co-chair of the joint health and safety committee. She was also a researcher at the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
"Ms. Sairanen has a great deal of experience in the field of occupational health and safety," said Raitt. "Her expertise and wealth of knowledge will be a strong asset to the centre."
The CCOHS promotes the well-being of working Canadians by providing information, training, education, management systems and solutions that support workplace health and safety. Governed by a tripartite council — representing government, employers and labour — the CCOHS sets out to provide unbiased information supporting responsible decision making on health and safety issues in the workplace.
