Clock ticking for Canada's Safest Employers Awards 2025 nominations

As workplace health and safety continues to evolve, one event stands out for spotlighting those driving meaningful change. The Canada’s Safest Employers Awards (CSEAs) are now accepting nominations — but the deadline is fast approaching.

From frontline leaders introducing cutting-edge protocols to executives rethinking the future of wellbeing, the CSEAs recognize those who are reshaping what safety looks like in Canadian workplaces.

With nominations closing on Friday May 2 now’s the time to celebrate the people and programs setting new standards across industries.

Safety leadership in a time of change

Today’s workplaces are more complex, diverse, and fast-moving than ever before. That’s why this year’s awards put a special spotlight on innovation, inclusion, and employee-driven culture.

“We’re starting to see companies shift away from one-size-fits-all wellness programs,” said Karen Adams, CEO at CloudMD. “Wellbeing means something different to each generation. The programs need to catch up to the new definitions — and that’s where we come in as providers, helping push the envelope.”

It’s a reminder that true safety leadership means staying ahead of the curve — anticipating needs, listening to workers, and building programs that reflect the changing nature of work.

Innovation in action

This spirit of forward-thinking also drove Mark’s Commercial to sponsor last year’s Innovation Award.

“Mark’s is all about challenging the status quo,” said VP Adam Gaiser. “Especially when it comes to health and safety — we’re looking for different technologies and ideas that can change the game. That’s why we were excited to support the winners doing truly impactful work, even in high-risk sectors like nuclear waste.”

Culture that starts at the top

Whether it’s tech, transportation, oil and gas, or healthcare — safety isn’t just a program. It’s a culture. And that culture often begins with strong leadership.

“A great CEO sees safety as equal to every other business priority,” said Jody Young, who presented the CEO of the Year award in 2024. “It’s about open communication and creating spaces where people feel safe to speak up. That’s where real culture change happens.”

Recognizing what matters

The awards also serve a deeper purpose — reminding Canadians what’s at stake.

“Everyone wants their loved ones to go to work and come home safe,” said Dr. Jonathan Davids, a 2024 presenter. “By recognizing the top performers, we help raise the bar for the whole industry.”

“There’s real passion in this community,” added Brandon Griffin from MSA Safety. “Especially in high-risk industries like oil and gas, you can't afford to let safety take a back seat for even a second. Culture matters — and this room was full of people who live that every day.”

The deadline to nominate is May 2, 2025, and it’s free to enter at safestemployers.com.

Finalists will be honoured at a gala celebration on October 9, 2025, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The future of workplace safety is already here — and these awards are where it’s being recognized. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate the leaders making it happen.
