Two women take home the top two individual awards
The most prestigious awards in Canadian occupational health and safety were revealed during a ceremony on Thursday. Canada’s Safest Employers Awards (CSEAs) recognize the outstanding health and safety professionals and companies for leadership, innovation and achievements.
More than 650 attendees packed the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in downtown Toronto for the 14th annual event to celebrate the winners in 20 different categories.
The star-studded event featured celebrity host Arisa Cox as host, who is also the host and executive producer of hit reality television show Big Brother Canada.
Among the top highlights of the night was The WSPS Award for CEO of the Year which went to Agnes Wietrzynski, CEO of QM Environmental. “We talk about safety almost on a daily basis, and it's in all our KPIs across the country. So I think that's the main driver for our company,” said Wietrzynski after receiving the prestigious award.
She wasn’t the only woman to win one of the big prizes of the evening. Adelia Marchese is the head of health, safety, and environment and Wolseley Canda and she received The BGIS Award for Safety Leader of the Year.
“I'm still a little bit in shock,” she admitted after accepting the award. “One of the things that I love to share is safety is not a priority, and that kind of shocks people, but it's actually a core value, because priorities shift and they change, and our values don't.”
