Worker was apparently killed in woodchipper accident on Wednesday morning
Durham Regional Police say that a worker is dead in Oshawa, ON, after a workplace accident involving a piece of machinery occurred at around 8.45am local time on Wednesday morning.
Local police say that the accident occurred at a worksite on Waverly Road, near Adelaide Avenue and Stevenson Road. The worker’s age and gender has yet to be confirmed.
The Ministry of Labour is currently investigating, reports CP 24.
Police investigators say that the worker died after initially be reported with vital signs absent. The worker is believed to have died on site.
Though details remain scant, the Toronto Sun reports that the worker was killed while using a woodchipper. Speaking to a neighbour who witnessed the scene, the Sun says that at the time of the accident, the neighbour says he saw a co-worker “run to the side of the chipper to turn the power off.”
The Sun additionally reports that, according to a member of a crew who was working on the street, the crew member “heard the chipper running and then shut down suddenly.” When the worker say the tree crew “scrambling around” he thought that “maybe the machinery had blown a hydraulic line.”
