Alberta Occupational Health and Safety investigating incident
A tragic incident unfolded at a First Nations community near Calgary. A 43-year-old man lost his life in what is believed to be a workplace fall at the Tsuut'ina First Nation.
Alberta Health Services confirmed EMS responded Tuesday to a call at a job site along Weaselhead Road, south of Grey Eagle Drive and near the Metro Ford dealership.
The distress call was made at approximately 8 a.m., prompting an immediate response from Emergency Medical Services.
"On arrival, EMS assumed care of an adult male patient in serious and potentially life-threatening condition," revealed Alberta Health Services in an emailed statement to CBC News.
It adds, "immediate interventions were undertaken by EMS crews as the patient was quickly deteriorating into critical and life-threatening condition."
Despite best efforts of emergency services to provide lifesaving aid, the man could not be saved.
Alberta Health Services reported that the scene has now been handed over to the Tsuut'ina police and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. These authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and the factors leading up to it.
"The incident appears to have been unwitnessed," mentioned AHS in a written statement. "This will be a part of the investigation."
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
The loss of life in this suspected workplace fall highlights the critical need for fall protection measures in work environments.
