24-year-old Ethan Allard died on the job in January 2017
An inquest has been scheduled into the death of Ethan Allard who died during a workplace accident in January 2017.
The 24-year-old was working at a construction site in Toronto’s west end, when he sustained fatal injuries.
An obituary from Allard describes him as a “true homegrown loving Petawawa boy.”
“Ethan’s legacy of love will continue to live through his spirited passion of the many lives he’s touched, especially his magnetic love for children.”
According to police, Allard was found without vital signs trapped in a construction machine and had to be extricated.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Allard’s death and a jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances.
The inquest begins Monday and is expected to last three to four days, while hearing from approximately eight witnesses. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer and David Spence will be inquest counsel.
It will be conducted over video conference, meaning members of the public who wish to view the proceedings can do so here.
Inquests can be difficult for friends, family, and coworkers of the deceased. It’s important for health and safety officers to be present and available during these difficult situations.
