Police searching for witnesses to help identify suspect
The Ottawa Police Service has launched an urgent appeal for witnesses in connection with a hit and run incident that occurred on the afternoon of October 16. It happened near a construction site, leaving a construction worker with serious injuries.
According to the authorities, the collision took place between 1:30 and 2 p.m., when a vehicle struck the worker and subsequently fled the scene. The suspect vehicle in question has been described as an older grey or silver SUV, possibly an Acura, with a conspicuous "for sale" sign displayed on the side.
The vehicle bore a Quebec license plate starting with the characters "E07" and is believed to have sustained damage to its front bumper near the fog lights. Unfortunately, no photographs of the vehicle are available at this time.
CTV News Ottawa reports eyewitnesses have described the driver as a white male, approximately 60 years old, who was wearing a Montreal Canadiens ball cap. The vehicle fled the scene by traveling eastbound on Baseline Road.
The Ottawa Police Service is actively seeking individuals who may have witnessed the hit and run or who might possess dashcam footage that could aid in the investigation. Speaking about the case, Front Line Patrol officer Cst. Caizapanta says, "we urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Clyde Avenue and Baseline Road on October 16 between 1:30 and 2 p.m. to come forward with any information they may have. Your assistance could be invaluable in helping us identify and locate the individual responsible."
In September there were two hit and run incidents on the same day, both involving construction workers, and one of them was killed. One happened in Montreal, where a worker died from his injuries, and the other was in Toronto and left a worker with life-altering injuries.
As the investigation unfolds, the Ottawa Police Service is counting on the cooperation of the community and the public's willingness to step forward with any pertinent information. Their collective efforts are crucial in bringing the responsible party to justice and providing closure to the victim and their family.
