A construction worker fell to his death while working on a project in the Montreal suburb of Laval, Quebec.

The 41-year-old man fell six storeys from a condo building that was under construction Monday afternoon.

When police officers arrived on scene they attempted to revive the man, but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laval police spokesperson, Erika Landry, tells Global News, they are investigating the circumstances of the fall to determine whether any criminal elements were involved.

Quebec’s workplace health and safety board, CNEEST, assigned two investigators to the case and they visited the site on Tuesday.

The construction worker was employed by Cordero Construction and the building contractor is EMD Batimo.

CNESST ordered a work stoppage on both the sixth and seventh floors for Monday and Tuesday, and further orders could be issued if needed.

The site was empty because workers were sent home after the fall, and they were given Tuesday off.

Slips, falls, and trips are one of the leading causes of injuries on construction sites, which can be even more hazardous in winter.

Health and safety professionals working in the construction industry should be designating employees to search for and flag any potential hazards at various points throughout the day, and especially in the morning before work begins each day.
