WinGrip by Latchways is a flexible, modular system that protects engineers from falls while undertaking aircraft maintenance. It uses lightweight, vacuum anchors that attach to the aircraft’s fuselage, stabilisers or wings. Workers attach themselves to these anchors using a harness, safety lanyard and work positioning rope, allowing a safe working radius of 3 metres. The system can be configured for single or multiple users. The Multiple-User Lifeline allows up to four harnessed workers to work together and move around freely along a cable via the unique Latchways shuttle. In addition, the WinGrip Barrier System enables an area from 1 square meter to the entire upper surface of an aircraft to be completely enclosed by rails, giving workers the freedom to work safely without harnesses. The WinGrip System is suitable for use on any aircraft, large or small. The vacuum anchors are powered pneumatically using compressed air or nitrogen, without the need for electricity or battery power. They weigh less than 6 kilograms, so they offer a lightweight, portable and easy to use solution inside a hangar or outside on the apron and in both wet and dry conditions. There is no metal on metal contact, so no risk of sparking, and an absence of welded joints ensures total structural integrity. The WinGrip system has been independently tested to exacting standards and meets all relevant and required international standards, according to the manufacturer. It can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements.
