Eyesafe is a program administered by the Alberta Association of Optometrists to promote workplace eye safety by providing prescription safety glasses, eyewear accessories and services. Eyesafe works with companies to help them select prescription safety eyewear options for their specific work environment and budget. Free to join, users have access to more than 200 frames from all major manufacturers and can choose from a broad variety of lens materials and grades. Workers can select their own lens coatings and treatments, such as sun protection and transitional photochromatics, computer screen glare protection and polarization. Administrative features include online ordering access; training in person or by live webinar; and custom setup/administration of program. Eyesafe can be configured to cover the professional services fees for eye health examinations. This may be a less expensive and more convenient alternative to using a benefits program, or having employees submit these as individual expenses, says Eyesafe. Eyesafe also makes prescription dress frames available through the program; these can be fitted with lenses to protect against computer screen glare for office workers.
