The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and the federal Ministry of Labour are investigating an incident that left one worker seriously injured.

The 53-year-old female worker sustained her injuries on Tuesday morning when she was crushed between two side-by-side All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, according to police.

Officers with the Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the commercial property on Highway 35 in Fenelon Township at around 10 a.m on Tuesday to look into the incident.

Not much information about exactly what happened was available as of writing.

The woman was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.

The woman worked for a federally regulated employer, the provincial ministry told CTV News.

While ATVs are a popular form of activity, there is potential for injury and death, According to Statistics Canada (StatCan). From 2013 to 2019, on average, across all provinces and territories, 100 people in Canada died from unintentional ATV events every year. Among these fatalities, 9% involved a utility terrain vehicle (UTV), it said.

“Understanding the circumstances surrounding ATV fatalities can be a good starting point toward implementing preventative measures to minimize harm to Canadians,” said StatCan.

The New Brunswick coroner’s office and WorkSafeNB are also investigating the death of a 60-year-old man at the American Iron and Metal recycling plant.

Previously, a 19-year-old worker was in critical condition after a work accident in Beauharnois, QC. The worker was trapped under heavy machinery in the outdoor yard of a company located on Hauts-Fourneaux Road near Highway 30.

Also, A construction worker sustained serious injuries after he was hit by a metal at the worksite.The incident happened on the morning of June 28 at the construction site between Burleigh Private and Snow Street in Ottawa, Ont.

Another worker was killed after he was trapped under a garage door at a Caledon workplace in Ontario. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also, one bank employee in Toronto was stabbed multiple times during an attempted bank robbery. The incident happened at around 1 p.m. in Chinatown. A man held up a bank near Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West.
