According to a report from the Canadian Press, the incident occurred shortly before 4 pm near the intersection of Township Road 424 and Range Road 2160, approximately 22 kilometers southwest of Tisdale.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the bus was the only vehicle involved in the collision and was found upright in a ditch at the scene. In a news release, police reported that the driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, 27 students aged between 14 and 17 were on the bus, and some were also injured. While specific details regarding the children’s injuries were not disclosed, RCMP stated that six students suffered serious injuries, with one student airlifted to a hospital in Saskatoon for further treatment. Additionally, 21 students were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The North East School Division issued a statement on Tuesday, expressing gratitude to the emergency responders and health practitioners who provided quick assistance following the crash. “We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all the emergency responders and health practitioners for their quick response and care to all those involved,” the statement read.

The RCMP has not released any information regarding the potential cause of the crash, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. As a result of the incident, the intersection between Range Road 2160 and Range Road 2155 was closed for approximately 12 hours but has since been reopened to traffic.

Police have refrained from disclosing the identities of the injured students, nor have they provided additional information on the status of those receiving treatment in hospitals. The investigation into the crash continues as the community comes to terms with the incident.
