Company failed to pay employees’ wages within 14 days of termination of employment
Saskatchewan company 101110516 Saskatchewan Ltd., operating as Jones E Property Maintenance, was fined $9,800 after pleading guilty to eight counts of failing to pay wages within 14 days of termination of employment.
The company was fined $875 plus a $350 surcharge on each count. All eight violations under The Saskatchewan Employment Act occurred between July 2019 and October 2019, according to the government.
Under Saskatchewan laws, all wages, including overtime and vacation pay, must be paid out within 14 days of termination of employment.
However, the Employment Standards Division at Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recovered almost $1.7 million in unpaid wages in 2019-20 for 1,479 employees, according to the government.
Also, three firms in British Columbia were fined for separate violations of fall protection rules.
