Nova Scotia has released its proposed new occupational health and safety administrative penalties and wants the province's citizens and stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposal.
"Administrative penalties have been in place for three years, and it is now time to review and identify areas that could be strengthened," Nova Scotia's Department of Labour and Advanced Education said in a statement. "We want to make sure that administrative penalties are having the intended impact as we work together to improve safety for all Nova Scotians."
In November 2012, the province announced that a review of administrative penalties would be completed. Since the review was initiated, the department has heard from those who administer the administrative penalties system and those who are impacted by it. Feedback and information on what is working and what is not were also gathered.
"This review will incorporate this information to ensure that the administrative penalties system is applied consistently, fairly and appropriately," the province said.
Before the administrative penalties process is revised and finalized, the department is again asking for public feedback on the proposed approach to administrative penalties. The discussion paper outlines proposed solutions to issues identified by Nova Scotians.
