Manitoba launches 90-day public consultation on Workers Compensation Act

Manitoba’s legislative review committee responsible for conducting a comprehensive review of the Workers Compensation Act launched its public consultation today, Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen said.
“Workers Compensation Board provides an essential service to Manitoba by protecting the workers and employers of this province,” said Cullen. “The legislative review of the act will help the Workers Compensation Board continue to evolve and keep pace with changes in Manitoba’s workforce.”

Legislation requires a comprehensive review of the Workers Compensation Act be undertaken every 10 years. Members of the appointed legislative review committee are chair Michael Werier, Chris Lorenc, Anna Rothney and Ken Sutherland.

“It’s an honour to lead this important work to ensure Manitobans continue to be well-served by the act,” said Werier. “I am joined by three talented individuals who bring considerable knowledge and expertise regarding the current act.”

The 90-day public consultation period will remain open until Feb. 15, 2017.

“We will use public contributions to help guide the Workers Compensation Act into the future,” said Cullen.

Interested Manitobans are encouraged to visit the committee’s website, www.wcbactreview.com, to learn more about the mandate and scope of the review. Once the public consultation period is over, the legislative review committee will review all submissions and prepare a report for consideration by the Manitoba government on or before June 30, 2017, the minister added.
