Manitoba Hydro worker dies at work site

A Manitoba Hydro worker died on the job on Thursday, according to the employer.

The incident happened while the worker was doing work related to a power outage.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the individual’s loved ones, friends and coworkers,” says Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Allan Danroth. “We are devastated to lose a member of our Manitoba Hydro family. The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority and we are committed to fully investigating the cause of this tragedy.”

The cause of the fatality is under investigation, according to the employer.

Manitoba Hydro did not release the identity of the worker as they “support the family and respect their privacy”.

The Crown utilities corporation said no other employee was injured during the incident and there is no risk to public safety at this time, noted CBC.

Workplace Safety and Health has been notified of the death and is responding to this incident, said a spokesperson for the province, according to the report.
