How an Amazon manager is leading a progressive push in Canada
Angela Spehar is proud of the progress she is leading as the senior regional workplace health and safety manager for Amazon logistics in Canada.
“We have gender parity,” proclaims Spehar enthusiastically. “Of our 50 health and safety associates, we actually have slightly more females than males at this point in time."
She is spearheading initiatives to help achieve and maintain this gender parity and celebrate the invaluable contributions of women in safety roles. She says this achievement reflects Amazon's dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce where every voice is valued and heard.
As she prepares to attend the Women in Safety Summit in Calgary, Spehar eagerly anticipates the opportunity to amplify the voices of women in the field. As a moderator of a panel on leadership and career success, she aims to empower women to take ownership of their career journeys and advocate for their presence at the forefront of safety discussions.
"Women deserve a seat at the table for safety," says Spehar, highlighting the importance of diversity in shaping robust safety protocols and practices.
The Women in Safety Summit serves as more than just a platform for professional development; it represents a vibrant community where networking and collaboration thrive.
"There's always power in learning about other people's stories," says Spehar, who is looking forward to engaging with fellow attendees, exchanging insights, and forging connections that transcend professional boundaries.
Amidst the enriching discussions and networking opportunities, Spehar envisions the summit as a space for camaraderie and celebration. "I think it'll be a really fun and enlightening opportunity for learning," she adds. "We're all better together, and I'm looking forward to celebrating that."
Spehar’s leadership exemplifies Amazon's commitment to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the multifaceted talents of women in safety roles, which will be celebrated in full in Calgary this week.
