Alberta company fined $100K for serious injury

Worker’s hand entangled in drill bit

Tory Industries has been fined $100,000, inclusive of the 15 per cent victim fine surcharge, for a serious injury at its Lacombe, Alta. work site.

A worker was drilling holes into a timber that was being used to make crane mats. The worker’s hand became entangled in the drill bit and countersink.

Tory Industries pled guilty to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker engaged in work of that employer. All other charges were withdrawn.
