Yukon Workers' Safety and Compensation Board records 1 death in 2023

Yukon Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board recorded a solitary death in the year 2023, according to a report.

That was the second straight year that the territory had one death on the record, reported The Hamilton Spectator.

Overall, there were 876 workplace injury claims filed with the board in 2023, and 687 were accepted. In 2022, that number of filed claims was 1,028, with 785 accepted, according to the report.

There were 380 lost time claims, as opposed to 455 in 2022.

Meanwhile, some Yukon employers will be eligible for a $10 million rebate from the board, board chair Mark Pike said, according to The Hamilton Spectator.

To be eligible, employers must have had an open account with the board and have paid assessment premiums in 2023.

They also had to have their accounts with the board up to date with no outstanding money owed, in compliance with the Worker Safety and Compensation Act.
