Worker fatally injured in workplace

One worker was fatally injured at the workplace of steel products producer Evraz North America in Saskatchewan.

The incident happened in Regina on Nov. 19, and the worker involved was a contractor, according to a CTV News report.

The company, however, did not disclose details about what happened.

“We are cooperating fully with local authorities as they investigate this incident,” Evraz said in a statement to CTV News. “Due to the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide additional information at this time.”

The company is also providing support for other team members.

"We are committed to supporting our employees and contractors during this challenging time while continuing to ensure the well-being of everyone who works at or visits our facilities," it said, according to the report.

In 2020, Evraz was fined $322,000 for an incident that caused serious injuries to a worker in 2018.

Also in 2020,  Evraz was also fined $90,000, plus a surcharge of $36,000,. The year prior, the company was fined $71,429 plus a $28,571 surcharge, for a total of $100,000, after another worker got hurt on the job.
