No one was injured in the incident
A fire broke out at Nutrien’s Vanscoy potash mine in Saskatchewan on Thursday morning, according to a report.
The fire happened inside a pipe in an above-ground facility at Nutrien’s Vanscoy, a Nutrien spokesperson said, according to a CTV News report.
“Our Emergency Response Team acted swiftly to assess, contain, and extinguish it,” the spokesperson said.
Offsite emergency services were also called in as a precaution, though the company believed their help was needed, according to the CTV News report.
No one was injured in the incident, the company said, according to the report.
And while smoke was visible above the site, underground workers were not evacuated during the incident, according to the report.
In March, one mining worker was seriously injured at the Nutrien potash mine in Saskatchewan. A 53-year-old worker needed to be rescued from an underground location, and suffered serious injuries.
In May, the mine was temporarily closed in May following one death at the facility. Nutrien confirmed the fatality at its railcar loading facility.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends as well as our own employees who will also be impacted during this very difficult time. Our current focus is on ensuring we have support services available to all those involved," read the company said in a statement back in May.
