New business hopes to revolutionize disability management

Joy Moore launches Eastern Return to Work Solutions to change 'adversarial relationship'

New business hopes to revolutionize disability management

A new player hopes to make waves in health and safety with its innovative approach to disability management. Eastern Return to Work Solutions, founded by seasoned physiotherapist Joy Moore, promises to transform how employers and health and safety professionals handle workplace injuries and illnesses.

"Our mission is to help people get back to work quickly by facilitating a smooth stay-at-work or return-to-work process," says Moore, who has over 35 years of experience in physiotherapy and disability management. "We believe in a worker-centric approach and that work is healthy and essential for a productive life."

Moore’s journey to this new venture is a testament to her dedication and expertise. After owning and managing Portland Physiotherapy Health and Wellness Centre for over three decades, Moore transitioned to a pivotal role at CBI Health, where she specialized in disability management and the intricacies of workers' compensation systems. By launching Eastern Return to Work Solutions, Moore aims to leverage this extensive experience to support employers in managing the return-to-work processes.

"Eastern Return to Work Solutions is committed to supporting employers by providing effective disability management solutions that help reduce costs associated with absenteeism and lost productivity," Moore explains. "By leveraging our know-how in disability and injury management, employers can focus on what they do best, leaving the return-to-work process to our professionals."

A bridge between employers and employees

One of the core principles of Eastern Return to Work Solutions is maintaining open communication between all stakeholders. This approach is designed to eliminate the friction that often plagues disability management.

"In the clinic, we would often see an adversarial relationship between the employer and the injured employee, which can hinder the return-to-work process," Moore recalls. "Our goal is to change that by ensuring everyone is taken care of and that communication is kept open. We want to motivate and engage the injured or ill employee so that they make a decision about wanting to go back to work and needing to go back to work, not being forced to."

One of the key strategies advocated by Moore is maintaining a connection between injured employees and their workplace.

"One of my tag lines is 'work is healthy,'" Moore emphasizes. "It's important to keep an injured or ill employee connected to the workplace. This gives them motivation to get back to work sooner because the longer they are away from the workplace, the harder it is to get them back. If the employer can accommodate the limitations or restrictions of an injured or ill employee, they are going to get back to work more quickly."

Supporting small to medium businesses

Moore identifies a significant gap in support for small to medium-sized businesses, which often lack the resources and expertise to handle disability management effectively.

"I see a lot of small to medium businesses that aren't as familiar with dealing with these issues and maybe don't have as many claims," Moore says. "When they do have someone going off work with an injury or illness, they're not sure how to approach it. We're focusing on those businesses that could use this support."

Eastern Return to Work Solutions aims to simplify complex multi-stakeholder processes, ensuring that employee well-being and operational efficiency go hand in hand. By fostering intrinsic motivation within the employees and promoting collaboration and respect among all stakeholders, the company strives to create a healthier, more productive work environment.

As Eastern Return to Work Solutions grows, Moore looks forward to working with all stakeholders in the disability management industry to have a positive impact on the lives of those they serve. The company’s approach, which emphasizes collaboration and effective communication, hopes to revolutionize the way employers handle disability management.
