RCMP, coroner's office, Workers Compensation Board all investigating the incident
One man died following an incident on a fishing vessel in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.).
Cpl. Gavin Moore, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), said that shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, police received a report about a man who was injured on a fishing boat, according to a report from The Canadian Press (CP).
The man died before the vessel made it to shore in North Lake, according to the report.
The fishing vessel is based in North Lake, according to a CBC report.
Moore, however, could not say when the vessel arrived, nor could he provide more information about the man or how he was injured, according to the CP report posted on CTV News.
RCMP, the coroner's office and the occupational health and safety division of the Workers Compensation Board are working together on the investigation, according to the CBC report.
The RCMP has also reported the incident to Transport Canada, according to the CP report.
Commercial fishing is considered one of the most dangerous occupations in the world. Governments in Canada have spent decades pushing safety messaging and developing new regulations, and while it appears as though the industry may finally be getting on board, it could still be a long time before we see a reduction in the number of deaths and injuries, according to a previous report.
