Separate workplace accidents in Alberta in a single day have killed two people.
Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline confirms that a contractor died Wednesday afternoon at one of its facilities near Redwater, northeast of Edmonton.
The company has not released any details, but Occupational Health and Safety tells Global News that a worker was wearing an air mask and using an air tank while doing maintenance on a tower when co-workers noticed he was in distress.
They brought him down but he died at the scene.
Earlier in the day, a man was fatally injured when he was struck by a piece of equipment at the Nova Chemicals PE1 Expansion Project in Joffre in central Alberta.
He died in the Red Deer hospital.
Investigations involving OHS and both companies are underway.
