The government of Alberta is asking for the public's opinion on proposed changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Code.
"This is a time when every Albertan can offer their input on ways to make the health and safety code more relevant," said MLA David Xiao when he announced the initiative at the Alberta Health & Safety Conference in Edmonton on Nov. 3. "This consultation encourages you to embrace the changes you see in the workplace."
As part of a regular review of Alberta’s OHS code, which takes place every five years, Albertans can share their views by completing an online survey. The survey will be open until Jan. 31.
Feedback is also being sought on a variety of areas, including:
•bullying and harassment
•health and safety management systems in the oil and gas sector
•workplace air quality
•underground mines.
"This includes historical topics, such as air quality, but we also include new topics such as aspects of mental health... which are indications that our expectations of what constitutes a healthy workplace are changing," said Xiao.
