Another worker superficially shot in the incident
One worker died while another one was injured after they fell victim to a shooting in Alberta earlier this week.
The incident happened on Tuesday, when Strathmore Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers were called to Township Road 250 and Range Road 282 just before noon for reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, it was discovered two individuals had been shot, one superficially, the other was fatally wounded, according to RCMP.
The worker who was fatally injured was identified as Colin Hough by Rocky View County, his employer.
“This tragic and senseless act has deeply affected us all,” said Byron Riemann, chief administrative officer of the county. “Colin was a valued member of our team, and we extend our deepest condolences to Colin's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
The other victim was a Fortis Alberta worker, but the employer did not release their name, according to a CTV News report.
The man was performing "routine work" when it happened, Fortis told CTV News.
"The employee was treated for the injury and released from the hospital later that evening.
"We are grateful that our employee is recovering and we are providing any support he, his family and his colleagues need at this time. We understand that another individual on scene succumbed to fatal injuries and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim."
After the shooting, the two armed suspects fled the scene in a stolen Rocky View County work truck. They dumped the truck at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, Alta., and fled the scene.
RCMP quickly located this vehicle, and a search of the area was conducted with assistance from numerous RCMP detachments, Police Dog Services, RCMP Emergency Response Team as well as Calgary Tactical Team and HAWCS from Calgary City Police.
However, the suspects remain at large.
“RCMP is seeking anyone who may have witnessed either event, especially if they have dash cam video, between 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to please contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968 or Crime Stoppers,” said the RCMP.
The police also released a photo of the truck that the suspects used to escape.
