'Early indications appear to show that the garbage truck left the road and ended up on its side,' says RCMP
A 62-year-old man died after the garbage truck he was driving crashed in Prince Edward Island.
The single-vehicle crash happened in Scotchfort on Friday.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to the incident at 10:40 a.m.
“Early indications appear to show that the garbage truck left the road and ended up on its side on Afton Road, a secondary road in Scotchfort,”said the RCMP.
Island EMS and the East River Fire Department also responded to this incident.
Provincial workplace safety officials have been engaged in this investigation as well as the provincial coroner's office, said the RCMP.
"The WCB extends its sincere condolences to the deceased's family, friends and co-workers on the loss of their family and community members," said the Workers Compensation Board of P.E.I. in a statement, according to a CBC report.
The board said its occupational health and safety division will begin a formal investigation, but would not provide any further details, according to the report.
