Worker crushed between forklift and equipment in fatal incident

A 53-year-old man died in a workplace accident in Quebec.
The incident happened at a Provigo distribution centre in Boucherville on Thursday last week.
At around 10 a.m., the victim was crushed between a forklift and equipment used to change forklift batteries, one spokesperson from Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), told the Montreal Gazette.
Inspectors for the CNESST have begun collecting data at the scene, according to the spokesperson.
Loblaw Companies Ltd., which owns Provigo, confirmed the incident, according to the report.
“We can confirm that an accident earlier (Thursday) at the Boucherville distribution centre resulted in the passing of one of our colleagues. Our deepest condolences go out to their family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time,” spokesperson Catherine Thomas wrote in a statement to Montreal Gazette.
Thomas noted that the company is fully cooperating with authorities as they investigate the circumstances of the incident. It is also providing necessary support to those affected by the incident.
Longueuil police (SPAL) told CTV News that there was no criminal element involved and they are not involved in the case.
