24-year-old dies in BC workplace incident

A 24-year-old man died following a workplace incident in British Columbia.

The incident happened in a Quesnel mill on Friday.

Quesnel Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), along with emergency health services and the Quesnel fire department, responded to a report of the workplace incident on Carradice Road in Quesnel at 10:18 a.m.

West Fraser, which operates the medium-density WestPine fibreboard mill, said an employee from a contracted agency was killed while conducting maintenance work on a piece of equipment at the mill, reported the Vancouver Sun.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased, and our team at WestPine,” said a company spokeswoman in a statement, according to the report.

The mill is used to engineer medium-density fibreboard generally used in building materials, noted CBC.

RCMP and WorkSafeBC are investigating the incident.
