Awards recognize commitments to health and safety for workers and the environment
The top energy and resources companies in Canada are being recognized with the COS 5-Star Energy and Resource Companies awards. The awards are given to organizations that demonstrate strong environmental, social, and governance programs, as well as display a dedication to social progress and have impressive health and safety policies.
One of the top companies recognized with an award is Western Energy Services.
“The award is testament to Western’s commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental Leadership and an acknowledgement of the hard work of the company,” says Dan Lundstrom, Western’s Vice President of Health Safety and Environment.
“Western understands the importance of being responsible environmental stewards, fostering a positive work environment and conducting daily activities with operational excellence. It’s nice to be recognized for progressive leadership that is making a difference in the present and shaping the future.”
A full list of award recipients can be found here. Toronto Hydro is also among the exclusive group for its commitments to health and safety, both among its workers, but also to the environment in which it operates.
The utility provider has a code of business conduct and a whistleblower procedure. “It contains a commitment to our corporate pillars, which include environmentally sustainable operations, a safe and healthy workforce and the reliable distribution of electricity, explains Aaron Wilhelm, senior manager, ESG and training programs.
Toronto Hydro is committed to Net Zero by 2040, and the goal of lowering carbon emissions is part of the reason fellow 5-Star winner INNIO Waukesha was recognized. It creates massive engines for machines in the oil and gas industry. It prioritizes low carbon and circular products, resilient supply chain and manufacturing, and socially responsible operations.
“All three pillars are underpinned by good governance and sound, transparent ethical and compliance standards such as the business’s code of conduct, human rights, anti-corruption and trade compliance guidelines”, explains Thomas Light, vice president – operations and supply chain.
