Bolland Driving Solutions has added Mobileye to its product lineup, the first dealer/reseller of the collision avoidance system in Atlantic Canada. Mobileye has been shown not only to reduce accidents but also to improve driver behaviour over the long term. Already standard equipment in new cars from brands such as GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Hyundai and BMW, Mobileye can also be installed in any vehicle, including family cars and commercial fleet vehicles. The system acts as a co-pilot for the driver through its artificial vision technology, which includes lane, vehicle, pedestrian and traffic sign detection as well as head lamp control. For example, if the driver strays onto the solid line along the shoulder of the road, Mobileye’s lane detection technology will beep to warn them.
According to Mobileye, one large trucking company’s experience with nearly one billion miles travelled resulted in verall accident and incident rate down 30 per cent, and in the first three months, systems savings paid for fleet-wide implementation in more than 5,000 vehicles.
Mobileye also tends to reduce fuel costs, says Bolland Driving Solutions. Fuel savings average 1.3 per cent. In a fleet of 100 plus trucks with an annual fuel bill of $12 million, those savings translate to $156,000 and a rapid return on investment, it said.
